Dissertation Writing Mechanism for Doctoral Students in Educational Science, UNY
The doctoral dissertation process in the Doctoral Program in Educational Sciences at Yogyakarta State University (UNY) is designed to ensure academic rigor, transparency, and compliance with national and international quality assurance standards. The process is systematically structured and fully documented through UNY’s integrated academic information system.
The dissertation process consists of sequential and compulsory stages, including proposal examination, feasibility examination, research implementation, closed dissertation examination, and open dissertation defense (doctoral promotion). Each stage is governed by clear academic regulations and standardized assessment criteria to ensure consistency, fairness, and academic excellence.
Academic integrity is strictly enforced throughout the process. All dissertation manuscripts are subjected to plagiarism screening, with a maximum similarity index of 20%. Prior to eligibility for the open dissertation defense, doctoral candidates are required to publish at least one scholarly article in an internationally reputable journal indexed in Scopus or Web of Science, ensuring international visibility and research impact.
Doctoral supervision is conducted by a Promoter and Co-Promoter, appointed based on demonstrated expertise and relevance to the candidate’s research area. Supervision is delivered through face-to-face, online, or blended modalities, supported by a structured monitoring system with formal progress evaluations conducted at least once every three months. This mechanism ensures timely completion, research quality, and alignment with the approved study plan.
