04/06/2024 - Monday (3/6), The Graduate School of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) once again held a Visiting Professor (VP) session under the Doctoral Program in Educational Sciences, themed “Towards The New Pedagogy: Challenges & Opportunities.” This event served as an important platform to explore the emerging concept of New Pedagogy, along with the challenges and opportunities it presents.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Azni Yati Kamaruddin, an education expert from Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. In her presentation, Dr. Azni offered deep insights into the concept of New Pedagogy, highlighting both the opportunities it brings and the challenges that must be addressed.
The discussion revealed that New Pedagogy encompasses a variety of innovative approaches such as blended learning, flipped classrooms, gamification in education, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and Service Learning. Dr. Azni also elaborated on key opportunities and challenges in implementing these approaches, including personalized and flexible learning, enhancing engagement and motivation, real-world relevance, and holistic skill development.
The session, guided by a moderator, focused not only on understanding the conceptual foundations of New Pedagogy but also on its implementation, opportunities, and challenges. Several doctoral students had the chance to present their research topics related to this theme, receiving valuable feedback and inspiration directly from experts.
“Through this event, we hope participants gain a deeper understanding of new pedagogical models, as well as valuable perspectives on opportunities and challenges related to personalized and flexible learning, engagement, motivation, real-world relevance, and holistic development,” the moderator remarked.
Beyond offering new knowledge, this Visiting Professor program also strengthened the collaboration between Universiti Malaya (Malaysia) and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta, fostering ongoing academic exchange and shared learning. The event is expected to continue generating a positive impact on the future of education through the exchange of ideas and innovative practices.
