Training and Development of Modern Music at SDN Margoagung, Seyegan, Sleman

03/10/2025 - Margoagung Village is well known for its tourism potential, earning the titles of both a Tourism Village and a Cultural Village. As a “Desa Emas” (Golden Village), Margoagung has actively developed various forms of traditional art. Over the years, the village has focused its artistic development on traditional music, particularly gamelan and karawitan ensembles, which have become a strong part of the local cultural identity.

However, modern music has not received the same level of support and development. The lack of modern musical instruments and facilities has limited the creative growth of local youth.

To address this, the Community Partnership Program, organized by the Doctoral Program of Educational Sciences (S3 IP) and Educational Research and Evaluation (PEP) at Yogyakarta State University, was held to empower the local youth organization (Karang Taruna) in developing their potential in modern music.

The activity took place at SDN Margoagung, where instructors provided training on studio arrangement that meets occupational health and safety (K3) standards, as well as music training management, to ensure that future training sessions can be conducted effectively.

Modern music offers many advantages, including its versatility to be combined with other genres such as traditional music, dangdut, pop, and rock. Various genres fall under modern music, including alternative, blues, slow rock, and pop hits.

This initiative aims to provide local youth with the skills and facilities needed to explore modern music, complementing the village’s strong foundation in traditional arts and contributing to the cultural vibrancy of Margoagung. (edi/risk/ant)
